What you’ll learn: your path to becoming a PADI Open Water Diver
Our goal is to provide you with a solid, safe, and fun foundation in diving. The PADI Open Water Diver course is divided into two main parts:
- Knowledge development (Theory): You’ll learn the basic principles of scuba diving, including dive planning, safety procedures, equipment assembly, and understanding the underwater environment. We include all necessary PADI study materials, such as the manual, which you can even start reviewing before you arrive!
- In-water practice:
- Confined water skills: You’ll start in shallow, pool-like conditions (often our pool or a calm, shallow bay) to practice fundamental scuba skills until you’re comfortable. This helps you become familiar with your equipment and build confidence.
- Open water dives: You’ll make four (4) open water dives in the beautiful reefs around Nusa Penida. These dives allow you to apply the skills you’ve learned and explore the underwater world under the direct supervision of your instructor. You’ll complete two dives to a maximum of 12 meters and two dives to a maximum of 18 meters.
Course duration
The PADI Open Water Diver course at Temple Diving Nusa Penida typically takes 3 days to complete. The course is performance-based, allowing you to progress at a comfortable pace with personalized attention from your instructor. While we can be flexible with start times (a common reference meeting time is 8:00 AM), completing the course within 3 days requires consistent participation.
Requirements to enroll
To start your PADI Open Water Diver certification journey, you need to meet a few simple requirements:
- Be 10 years old or older (for the Junior Open Water Diver certification).
- Be in reasonably good health (you’ll need to complete a medical questionnaire).
- Knowing how to swim and being comfortable in the water is a mandatory requirement that you will need to demonstrate.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours before your last dive and your next flight.
